Is Milan suitable for kids? As the second largest city in Italy, it’s hard to avoid a stop in Milan when traveling with kids and yes, there we found lots of things to do!

There is so much to do and see with it being the city of fashion and industry.

Also, creating a 2-day Milan itinerary was a piece of cake because the city is not super big.

With that, shade, air conditioning, and gelato become your best friend when you are in Milan in the summer with kids.

Why? Italy gets hot in June, July, and August, sometimes even starting in May. You will want to prepare for the heat by staying hydrated and cool.

This is why we focused on activities in Milan that were easy and near shade and air conditioning.

While we stayed in the city for two days, I found a handful of places you will love to help you plan your two-day family-friendly Milan itinerary.

Is Milan a good place for kids?

Milan is a family-friendly city with a wealth of activities, including museums, delicious food, and outdoor adventures. It is renowned for being safe, clean, and welcoming, making it an ideal destination to explore the vibrant northern side of Italy. Places like Parco Sempione, Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, and the Natural History Museum of Milan are perfect stops for families traveling with kids. And don’t get also, Milan is filled with gelato and shopping opportunities.

Where is Milan?

Located in Northern Italy, Milan is the capital of the region of Lombardy. Milan is the economic and cultural capital of Rome.

Where to stay in Milan with family?

During our two days in Milan in June, we stayed in three-room Airbnb apartment minutes walking distance of the famous cathedral. It featured a small kitchen, dining area, and air conditioning. The suite is perfect for a family of four coming in for a short stay.

How many days do you need for Milan?

During our two-day, three-night stay in Milan, we found the city to be compact and easily navigable, allowing us to cover enough ground and have a fulfilling Milan vacation, even with a toddler. However, if you desire a more immersive exploration of the city with kids, I would recommend allocating at least four days.

What’s the weather in Milan in June?

Milan has an average high of 81 degrees in June. You will find that it is also a little humid. I find that tank tops and linen pants are great for staying fashionable and cool.

How to get around in Milan?

Milano Centrale Train Station in the summertime.

If you stay near the center of Milan, getting to the main tourist attractions is walkable. The streets are mostly paved as well, so pushing a stroller around is easy.

TAXI | For going farther distances, we liked AppTaxi.

TRAIN | For day trips from Milan to other cities in Italy, the train system is your best bet. We use either Italiarail or Frecciarossa.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION | For transportation to and from the airport in Milan, we schedule our rides through Blacklane service as they are highly rated for being reliable, safe, and on time. Three key things that matter especially when you travel with kids.

Family-friendly Milan 2-Day itinerary

Here is a quick list of things to do in Milan with kids that can be accomplished in two days.

01 | GRAB SICILIAN GRANITA

Piazza Castello, 20121 Milano MI

After you check into your stay, shower, unpack, and take care of essentials, the best thing to do is grab a cool drink.

We beat by grabbing a cool Italian Ice in the shade around Sforzesco Castle.

You can find Italian Ice stands around the corners of intersections in Milan.

And folks are always happy to see a baby in a soccer jersey, even if it’s not their home team.

FUN FACT: Italians love soccer and their home club teams. If you wear a soccer jersey from a different league, you may receive some colorful reactions.

It would be like wearing a Red Sox jersey in New York City.

02 | VISIT CASA MILAN MUSEUM AND STORE

A fan at the Casa Milan Store - things to do in Milan with kids

For the soccer fans in the family, visit Casa Milan.

My husband loves Milan mainly for its soccer team, AC Milan

If your family has any soccer fans, this is a must-see stop, even if they are not your favorite team.

Additionally, this is a great activity for the whole family because the store has air conditioning!

Cool down from the heat, and admire the many trophies won by one of the greatest soccer teams in history.

Next, visit the gift shop and cafe to enjoy a snack and beverage with the kids before you leave.

03 | EAT PIZZA FROM GINO SORBILLO

We did not capture many pictures of the pizza because we ate it too fast. It was gone within minutes.

Once you sink your teeth into a Gino Sorbillo crust, you forget about the rest of the world.

Made by the Sorbillo family, the Sorbillos have been making pizza for a very long time.

When you are in Milan, check out one of their locations to taste Neapolitan pizza.

As a late lunch or early dinner option, I highly recommend picking up a few pizzas from Gino Sorbillo Pizza Gourmand at the Via Ugo Foscolo 1 location in Milan. Or eat at one of their restaurant locations.

Try the Mortadella pizza. It is amazing. This is coming from someone that is not a fan of Mortadella.

LOCATIONS

Check out the different restaurant locations.

04 | STROLL SFORZESCO CASTLE PARK

While the pizza from Gino Sorbillo digests, take a stroll through Sforzesco Castle Park.

The park is located behind the castle.

TIP: Enter through Sforzesco Castle Fort and walk straight through until you hit the park.

It’s hard to miss, just follow the sound of children and birds.

You’ll find lush green grass to cool you down and open spaces to run and play.

The park is free and a great place to take in the natural scenery.

LOCATION

Piazza Castello, 20121 Milano MI

05 | ENJOY COFFEE AND A PASTRY FOR BREAKFAST

Pick one of the many cafes to enjoy breakfast outside while it’s cool in the morning.

Typical items on the breakfast menu include coffee, juice, and croissants. Yes, you will find no eggs, hashbrowns, or oatmeal. One good reason to visit Italy with kids is that you can rely on some of the best coffee in the world to fuel you.

06 | VISIT DUOMO DI MILANO

A gothic-style cathedral, that glows in the daylight.

You can tour the church or simply walk by, take a picture, and admire the beauty of an important piece of architecture.

LOCATION

P.za del Duomo, 20122 Milano MI, Italy

07 | VISIT CASTELLO SFORZESCO GARDENS

Castello Sforzesco is a medieval fort near the center of Milan with a rich history. You can take a tour and check out the art gallery.

If a formal tour is not your thing because you have a toddler, you can enjoy the grounds and gardens that are open to all visitors.

This is a great spot to cool down and play.

LOCATION

Piazza Castello, 20121 Milano MI

08 | EAT PASTA AT SIGNORVINO

Signorvino is a brand in Italy that promotes excellent wine. They have several wine stores and restaurants across Italy.

This is a lovely place for anyone that is trying Italian food for the first time.

LOCATIONS

Check out their locations to grab a bite to eat.

09 | WALK THE GALLERIA (Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II)

Next door to the Cathedral, you can easily walk straight into the Galleria.

Perfect if you need to cool down, use the restroom, diaper change, or grab something refreshing to drink.

Most shops here fall into the luxury designer category.

Great people-watching spot if you want to take in the scene of tourists.

LOCATION

P.za del Duomo, 20123 Milano MI, Italy.

10 | VISIT MUBA CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

Small children and toddlers will love the Muba Children’s Museum in Milan. Spend a few hours in interactive play. It’s a perfect summer indoor activity to stay out of the heat. Look at their Instagram page for pictures of the activities.
