Why visit Paris with kids

As a city that has been doing certain things the way they have been doing them for years, I also found visiting Paris in June refreshingly playful.

In the enchanting city of Paris, you'll discover a unique blend of gardens, museums, and captivating beauty that offers a level of stimulation unlike anywhere else.

There is a lot of love in this city and Paris people have no problem expressing the four-letter word.

As a parent exploring Paris with kids, I was pleasantly surprised by how effortlessly we were able to embrace a slower pace, cherishing each precious moment.

In Paris, the art of indulging in idleness has been perfected by the locals, presenting us with a valuable lesson that we embraced.

We were never out of kid-friendly options for things to do in Paris and see, even when we had to wait until 8:00 PM to eat dinner.

TIP: Restaurant service in Paris follows a schedule.

Lunch typically runs from noon to 2:30. The dinner service starts close to 7:30 and runs to 11:00. If you are hungry between these times, you can stop in a pastry shop or a local produce stand.

Where to stay in Paris with kids?

For your first visit to Paris with kids, it is highly recommended to choose a centrally located accommodation that provides convenient access to the top tourist attractions, such as the iconic Louvre, as well as the breathtaking gardens and parks that are a must-see.

Saint-Germain/Latin Quarter 5th and 6th arrondissements | Saint-Germain offers a family-friendly vibe accompanied by a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and markets.

It is also near to the Botanical Gardens, Luxembourg Gardens, Seine River, and Norte-Dame Catherdral. Additionally, Saint-Germain is known for having a wide selection of chocolate shops that foodies and kids will love.

1st Arrondissement | The smallest arrondissement of Paris, and mostly consisting of the Louvre, this area is great for first-time visitors staying for a couple of days because it is close to things like the Louvre, beautiful Tuileries Garden and prime shopping, restaurants, and cafes. The area is also walkable and easy to get around with a stroller.

TIP: If you're looking for the best park to visit with kids in this area, make sure to check out Palais-Royal Garden. This delightful destination offers a picturesque green space, a sandbox for little ones to enjoy, and even a life-size chess set where children can have a playful time.

5 reasons Paris is a good place for a family holiday

01 | ART AND BEAUTIFUL THINGS EVERYWHERE

A blue door along one of the streets in Paris
  • I see London I see France! Paris is a great place to play the “I Spy Game” as you admire the artistic qualities of the city.

  • For example, you can find colorful doors everywhere. Not to mention, a lot of gold.

  • FUN FACT: The streets of Paris are lined with beautiful doors that each embody a part of the city’s rich history. Colors vary from green, red, blue, or even gold.

  • Aside from museums and statues all over Paris, you can spot ornate details throughout the city.

  • BONUS: The color doors provide beautiful backdrops for photo moments if you want to take a spontaneous family picture. It could make a unique Christmas card.

02 | LEISURE & THE ART OF DOING NOTHING

  • It feels unusual to see hundreds of Paris people at 5 pm on a weekday enjoying a rest. Americans usually hustle home after a long work day without taking a moment for self-care.

  • Relaxing and “doing nothing” during our Paris family trip was easy because everyone around us was chilling too. Go to Paris and chill.

  • We often want to “do everything” on vacation but traveling with kids is another ball game.

  • If you try to do everything, things will begin to feel stressful.

  • Sometimes the leisure families need means doing less, and Paris is a great place to start practicing this. You will have many examples to follow.

Where to do it: This picture was taken in the Tuileries Garden near the Louvre.

03 | FOODS IN PARIS & HOW YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD WILL CHANCE AFTER PARIS

  • The French have a way of transforming food into something beautiful to eat.

  • From a slice of cheese to a crepe bought on the street or a side of bread at a Michelin-Star restaurant, you will find no lack of delicious things to eat in Paris.

  • I think it’s safe to say that the French take pride in their cuisine and don’t shy away from it.

04 | PICTURESQUE PARIS GARDENS & PARKS WHERE EVERYONE DOES LEISURE SO WELL

  • A Paris family vacation isn’t complete without visiting at least one park.

  • Paris has some of the best parks and gardens in the world. You will hear me say this a lot - parks are one of the best ways to get to know a place. They are usually free too.

  • For those traveling to Paris with a toddler or baby, parks make great activities because you do not have to make a reservation or buy tickets.

05 | A HAVEN FOR LOVERS OF FURRY FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS

  • You often hear, “Paris is for lovers,” but no one talks about the dogs. Paris is for dog lovers too…

  • I thought Americans took the trophy here, but I saw dogs everywhere.

  • It was fun to dog watch in Paris as a family and notice how well-groomed the furry animals looked. The dogs also seemed to have mastered the art of doing nothing. Wink wink.

Where to spot cute dogs: Jardin Du Palais Royal.
