Mount Juliet Estate: A Foodie-Friendly Retreat for Families in Kilkenny
Mount Juliet Estate: An ideal review for families seeking culinary delights and fun-filled activities.
Searching for a family-friendly accommodation in Kilkenny? Look no further!
Kilkenny was at the top of our must-visit list as we planned our trip to Ireland. And let me tell you, Mount Juliet Estate did not disappoint.
Situated on a sprawling 500-acre woodland, this hidden gem is just an hour and a half drive from Dublin. Not to mention, it's a convenient 20-minute ride from Kilkenny Castle. Talk about the perfect home base for all your sightseeing adventures.
Waking up to the sight of cows leisurely grazing outside our bedroom window was an absolute delight. It instantly won me over, and I knew we had found a special place.

Mount Juliet Estate History
Get ready to step into a world of elegance at Mount Juliet Estate. This Georgian Manor Estate has a rich history that dates back for ages, formerly owned by a line of distinguished Earls. Set on sprawling 500 acres of woodland, it's like stepping into a whimsical fairytale.
As you arrive, you'll be greeted by the feeling of pulling up to a friend's home. The warm and welcoming atmosphere embraces you, making you feel right at ease. And did you know? The estate got its name from Lady Juliet Butler, the wife of the original Earl of Carrick.
Check-in is a cozy affair, reminiscent of lounging in a comfortable living room. It's all about those small touches that make you feel like a cherished guest.

01 | ROOMS AND SUITES
We loved our experience staying inside the Manor House, the center part of the estate. The luxury hotel offers a variety of suites to accommodate your needs.
The River King View Suite was a treat because we had a magnificent view of the River Noir.
The room has a king-size bed, a living room with chairs, and a coffee table.
02 | FOOD AND DRINK
When we stay in hotels and places, we always make sure there are a variety of dining options.
The good thing is that if you are staying at Mount Juliet with kids, no one will go hungry.
From Afternoon Tea to The Hound, or even the famous Lady Helen Michelin star restaurant on site, families have a handful of gastronomic delights to choose from.
Also, you’ll find that in-room dining is a game-changer if you are traveling with a toddler or baby.
While my husband and our Irish friend dined at The Hound onsite, my girls and I ordered room service from the same menu.
Our one-year-old stole the sweet potato fries and ate them on her bed while my nine-year-old chowed down her gourmet burger and fries.
03 | HOTEL DECOR
Mount Juliet Estate feels like a museum. You could spend an hour exploring the artifacts on the walls inside of the Manor house.
Mount Juliet prides itself in being a hotel that brings a bit of history to life.
You see this through the golden framed decor and art hanging on the walls.
Or, admire the teacups and antiques within glass cabinets for guests to see.
04 | MOUNT JULIET MANOR HOUSE & MAJOR’S BAR
Kids may sip down a hot chocolate while parents enjoy a nightcap at the Major’s Bar.
We enjoyed the communal sitting area one evening next to the fire alongside carefully crafted hot chocolates made by the friendly bartenders.
The bar staff even brought up more cookies to our door that night for the girls. Mom ate some too.
That’s what I like to call “high touch hotel service” in Ireland.
05 | THE JUNIOR CLUB
The best hotels offer something for everyone and Mount Juliet has a great program called Junior Club.
A daily schedule of activities is available for kids, allowing parents time to enjoy the estate “hands-free.”
Look into the Junior Club when you are making your reservations.
If you are traveling with older kids or tweens, this option is perfect.
06 | MOUNT JULIET SPA (AND POOL)
It isn’t a family vacation if there isn’t a pool or a spa.
Mount Juliet offers the best of both worlds and allows guests to reserve a time to swim. Parents can take advantage of their sauna and steam room or treatment from their spa.
TIP: If you are interested in a spa treatment at Mount Juliet Estate, make the appointment before your visit. It’s a popular place.
